[Tel.] n. The letter J; as in jinka, jerri. In all Sanskrit words it is thus pronounced, as bijamu, jalamu In Telugu words it retains this sound when followed by I, E, or AI as jilugu. But with other vowels it is sounded as Z, or dz. Thus zabu sazja. As initials, the letters ca, cha and ja, ja are often used at pleasure. The initial aspirates also are used without rule. In some Telugu words, ja, da, da are equivalent, thus: goju, godu and godu are the same.
